Who We Are

The Association of Flight Attendants-CWA (AFA-CWA) is the flight attendant union organized by flight attendants for flight attendants. AFA represents nearly 50,000 flight attendants at 17 airlines, serving as a voice for flight attendants at their workplace, in the industry, in the media and on Capitol Hill. Simply put, the goal of flight attendants who become part of AFA-CWA is to negotiate better pay, benefits, working conditions and work rules at their airline, and to improve their safety on the job.

What We Are Looking For

Are you a flight attendant with a drive and passion to keep reaching new heights while helping your fellow flight attendants? If so, we want you to join our Spirit Airlines AFA-CWA team, however, we ask that you meet the following criteria:

  • Good organizational and communication skills

  • Knowledge of computer software including Google Drive

  • Knowledge of company policies and the current contract

  • Ability to attend regular committee meetings, as necessary

  • Adherence to committee policies, procedures, and standards of ethical conduct

  • Ability to maintain the confidentiality of sensitive and personal information

  • Maintenance of member-in-good-standing status

  • Ability to remain in good standing with management

  • Willingness to do ongoing committee work on a volunteer basis

  • No disciplinary steps

The Fine Print

By submitting this application I understand that I’m applying for a volunteer position and that I will be expected to maintain good standing with the Union as well as the company.

I also understand that if I do not follow the Spirit Airlines AFA­-CWA Contract and the Spirit Airlines AFA­-CWA Policy and Procedures manual it could result in removal from my AFA­-CWA position and I will be removed from this position.

Learn More About Our Committees

  • The Air, Safety, Health & Security Committee is composed of members with an interest in improving the health, safety, and security of the Flight Attendant membership as well as passengers of the airline. The committee will work with management on matters pertaining to cabin and Flight Attendant safety, health, and security.

  • This committee is composed of members with an interest in assisting the Flight Attendant membership with questions and concerns related to contractually and company-provided benefits, insurance, maternity, worker’s compensation, and leave of absence programs.

  • The Communications Committee is composed of members interested in coordinating all member communications activities of the Local Council. We also work to maintain regular and timely communication with the membership through relevant channels including print, web, social media, and emerging platforms.

  • The AFA EAP Committee consists of over 200 specially trained active flight attendants who assist members, their families, and partners with personal and work-related problems that could affect or are affecting their health and well-being, on and off the job.

    Employee Assistance and Professional Standard representatives are your fellow peers and are trained to provide three distinct, but interrelated, services that include assessment, support, and referral services, professional standards, and critical incident response.

  • The Government Affairs Committee’s responsibility is to monitor and pursue legislative activities that relate to the AFA-CWA political agenda and to build positive relationships with candidates for office and elected officials.

  • This Grievance Committee is composed of members interested in representing their fellow Flight Attendants in situations regarding contractual violations and disputes with management.

    A Grievance Representative’s primary responsibility is the protection of all Flight Attendants against arbitrary and unjust disciplinary action and to uphold the collective bargaining agreement.

  • This committee is composed of members interested in reviewing and recommending crew hotel accommodations and addressing Flight Attendant concerns with hotel or transportation providers. The committee also investigates Flight Attendant complaints about hotel facilities and transportation providers while periodically inspecting the facilities for any decline in quality.

    The Chairperson of this committee will act to survey potential facilities and attempt to eliminate or avoid any possible problems involving transportation or layover facilities.

  • The New Hire Committee is a resource for New Hires to ask questions and share ideas to make the transition to the industry and Spirit smoother as they begin their new career.

  • The Reserve Committee consists of members who have the drive to help their fellow Flight Attendants interpret and understand the reserve portion of the contract and serve as a liaison between Crew Scheduling and Flight Attendants holding a reserve schedule.

  • The Scheduling Committee provides input to and assists the company’s Crew Planning department in the pairing construction process and assists Flight Attendants with concerns relating to pairings or scheduling.
